Does long/short equity investing teach you how to be a fundamental investor?
Question says it all. My understanding is that you're forming and making relationships and getting C-Suite execs to spill the beans?

Some are spilling beans and some other are investing fundamentally. Some are both. Some are just guessing.
Well, when they're spilling the means, they're spilling the beans about fundamentals. So yes, definitely.
Yes. Fundamental long/short equity involves learning about fundamental investing. Silly question
As for the insinuation that L/S equity is mostly monetizing mgmt access, this is much more so the case in your mammoth long onlies.
A lot of PE is monetizing relationships. A lot of VC is promotion/clout/greater-fool. L/S public equity is imo the purest and most meritocratic form of fundamental investing. Just because some people may seek an unfair advantage is irrelevant.
L/S equity is not more “trading not investing” than LT ‘PE approach to public markets’ is momentum/macro and not fundamental.
Cmon now
Mildly aggressive but definitely informative response, thanks
