Does the "tiger cub" difference matter?
There is a lot of conversation on these threads about "tiger cubs". but for firms at the same level (eg lone pine vs. TCI/whale rock/etc.), is there a distinction between a tiger vs. non-tiger fund? Same for the tier below (e.g. a $1bn tiger cub/seed vs. another similar fund with same AUM and fees per IP). It feels like there are 50-100 funds out there with some type of link to tiger, so how meaningful is it anymore?
If (for example) you’re comparing Lone Pine vs. TCI, no one is going to hold it against your reputation if one isn’t a tiger cub. Both great shops with equally great rep
