The big dawg is Ricky Sandler. L/S and long only. Pretty sizeable AUM ($8bn combined). What they try to do is to develop a variant view on a single key driver of a name they look at.
Wdym by key driver; like a natural resource or some undervalued proprietary asset?
Sure, that could be one edge. Or just a variant view on price, quantity, cost, upcoming overcapacity, etc.
Have they done activist stuff in the past? For some reason I think they may have. Sounds like a good place from what little I know about it and Ricky Sandler
Not sure why but seem to think that returns there have been pretty mediocre
they develop a variant view and end up in the exact same positions as every other hedge fund. funny how that works :)
