Energy Commodities S&T Internship → FT Energy L/S?

How feasible is moving from an energy commodities S&T internship (trading desk) at a bank to a FT role in energy L/S? It seems like strong exposure to O&G fundamentals and supply/demand could translate well to analyzing energy equities, possibly more so than a general IB summer with limited energy focus.

Is this a realistic path, or do funds still strongly prefer IB/ER backgrounds?
