Equity Negotiation

Hey Primates,

For this topic, would appreciate insights from company directors or hedge fund managers.

I have already made a decision to join a startup hedge fund and I am now in the process of negotiating comp.

Background info: The fund has been setting up the structure (license, strategy, risk management etc) for the last 2 years and launched the fund last month (50mn AUM). Company is currently formed by quants and prop traders with decades of BB experience.

My value add: i have an expertise in an area in which the company is interested, my involvement was key in order to launch the fund (facilitated intros) and can bring additional 5-15mn.

Como negotiation: since the fund is starting, I won’t be asking for much cash comp: between 20-40k at the start with progressive increases as the fund aum gets bigger. Will also be requesting 10-20% equity.

Question: anything else I should consider? With the info provided, would this comp make sense?

Help: cannot provide details about the strategy but happy to provide insights about the process etc
