from Debt to multi-strategy?
Hi guys:
I'm just curious to see what you think of the background below for a multi-strategy HF please, and if anything can be done to enhance it?
2 yr macro (gov bond, currencies) , investment team on buy side
2-3 yr high yield debt analyst, investment team (long only fund)
Eventually I'd like to work for a multi-strategy hedge fund. Looking at linkedin profile of people currently at those funds, it seems that they are mostly ex-bankers. I've read on this forum that this is because ex-bankers will at least know modeling and it's just a very efficient way for hedge funds to source people. Will my lack of banking experience be a hindrance? I don't think mine was a worse experience or anything because I think my work is a lot closer to investing than a banker's work is, but I'm not sure how an HF would look at it...
Also do multi-strategy HFs have a preference for equity vs debt in terms of previous experience? What can I do in the next 2 years to make myself a more likely candidate for these funds? (just started on job #2.....)
Thank you!
uh, do something thats not long only?
Maybe throw some CDS & distressed in there?
What do you mean by "multi-strategy"? Do you mean a place that does fundamental debt & equity, or also macro/rates/commodities? By and large the truly "multi-strategy" shops have different desks for different asset classes/strategies, with varying levels of cooperation/consultation between them.
