Getting to a good sm hf from ER vs IB

Going to be an intern in ER soon and reading a lot of conflicting advice on this. If my goal is to work at a l/s equity single manager HF, should I try to switch into banking or stick to ER? The ER role is at a BB under a decent analyst (II ranked but nowhere near the best at the firm or covering the best names).

From what I have heard both options give you a pretty good shot at getting a SM HF offer. Although this is relative btw as getting into a HF is deff very hard but ER and IB have the highest conversion rates in HF jobs. I think if you are with a decent analyst that is II ranked it would make sense to work for them and get to know the clients they cover and then switch over to HF in 2-3 years. Pay close attention to the types of funds that reach our to your analyst and see if they interest you and are funds you would want to work at.

Good Luck!
