Going the event driven / credit route from a public equity background

Have an offer to join a prominent event driven fund (think DK, Third point, Farallon) after 2 yrs at a MF PE firm and 1 yr at a l/s sm hf. I've honestly never considered going this route, as my mind was always set on l/s equity. Has anyone else made the switch? Any thoughts on event driven in general? Also, would I be kind of pigeonholed into this strat or would future l/s doors remain open?

Got an interview request through a HH and figured there's no harm in going through the process. Made it clear from the beginning I had no rx or credit background and they didn't seem to mind
