Graduate school to HF
Hi:
I graduated from a semi-target a few years ago with a finance degree and now work on the sell side in Canada. I am trying to chart out my courses for the next few years with HF being the end goal. Ideally, I am aiming to be in the US where most of the actions are at.
Can anyone comment on whether going to a top grad school in the states would be a a good way to break into the top funds? If so, what school and what kind of graduate degree would serve the best and grant one with the most amount of options to different HF strategies? (I work in equities, traded currencies on my own for 6 years, still going strong, and consider myself as a top down guy. Never dabbled in FI or credit, but open to it as well)
Yes I understanding getting into a top school represents its own challenges, but I feel other than the grad school route, my shot of ending up at a top US shop is slim to none. Based on my current qualifications, experience and geographical location, I simply have nothing competitive to offer.
Just my thoughts, love to hear your take.
