Currently at a well known growth equity fund (think TA, Insight, etc.) doing software investing (combination of minority and majority deals). I find myself drawn to the public markets — is there a path to a HF from here? What would it look like?

I know former bschool classmates who who did banking and then growth (heavy sourcing role). All were successfully able to transition to HF post bschool. None of them wound up at "top" HFs though. Those went to the MFPE guys.
