Hedge fund tools for interview prep

What are some of the most helpful resources ? I’m prepping for interviews and would like to see if I can get some tools to help me prepare

I’m looking for CapIq alternative (cheaper), tool that ports historical financials straight to excel, stock screener, etc.

Much appreciated.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tools and resources that can assist you in preparing for hedge fund interviews:

1. Hedge Fund Interview Prep Course

2. Tools for Financial Data and Analysis

  • Grabsheet: A tool that allows you to upload screenshots of data tables and converts them into formatted Excel files in about 30 seconds. It's a great alternative for porting historical financials directly into Excel.
  • LogoIntern: Useful for creating presentations with company logos. It includes a PPT plugin for resizing and reordering logos efficiently.

3. Stock Screeners and Research Tools

  • While a specific cheaper alternative to CapIQ isn't mentioned, you can explore free or lower-cost stock screeners like Yahoo Finance, Finviz, or Morningstar for basic screening and analysis.

4. Excel and Financial Modeling Resources

  • WSO offers a variety of Excel resources, including:
    • Excel shortcuts for PC & Mac.
    • Advanced Excel formulas.
    • Excel modeling best practices.
  • Additionally, their financial modeling resources cover:
    • DCF modeling.
    • 3-statement models.
    • Accretion/dilution models.

5. Stock Pitch Preparation

  • Prepare a strong stock pitch by spreading comps and analyzing valuation metrics like forward P/E, EV/EBITDA, ROE, ROIC, and more. Ensure you adjust for one-time charges to determine normalized spending.

6. Mock Interviews and Resume Reviews

  • WSO offers professional mock interviews and resume reviews to help you refine your pitch and presentation skills.

These tools and resources should provide a solid foundation for your hedge fund interview preparation. Good luck!

Unless people are shilling, it’s super lame that mods are killing posts.

you can use tradingview and Koyfin for CIQ/screening. Both have free versions that are solid enough but the paid versions won’t break the bank. For financials, can use paid version of edmundsec and bulk download. Won’t be as clean as you’re looking for but again for like $25/mo you get a bunch of helpful tools (download across files, transcripts, search across docs, etc). If you know python there’s some decent apis that can help with charting in excel, would just google for those. Otherwise can use the excel stockhistory function, you’ll just have to manually divi adj prices and what not. All told you can get all of the above for like $75/mo.
