Hedge Fund/IB Summer Internship Search

Hey guys,

I'm 19, from Toronto, and headed into my sophomore year at a highly ranked school in the UK taking econ and finance.

My goal is to land either an IB or Hedge Fund internship during my Junior summer (to land a FT offer) and I think the best way to improve my odds of accomplishing this is to get some less intense experience in IB or HF during my Sophomore summer (next year).

I've found a bunch of boutique HF and IB's in Toronto/London and my question is, how/when should I go about contacting/cold calling these guys to secure a position for the upcoming summer?

Also, if I do get a hold of them, what experience should I be trying to get so as to improve my resume for an internship after Junior year.

A little confusing, I know, but any input would be awesome.
