HF Home Set Up?

Planning on moving to a HF after a few years in IB / PE. Does anyone have any tips on the home set up to optimize for a HF stint? Any specific monitor recommendations or will the standard ones that I had from banking do? I know I’ll get a work laptop, but does anyone have recs on personal laptop / tablet for travel or reading? Looking for something that’s relatively light, but still powerful enough for big models. What type of note taking applications do you use?

Also curious. Do people recommend ultra wide or dual monitor setup? I can’t get 3 monitors to work with my laptop sadly

get a USB C hub like the Dell W19 to access 3 * 24" 1920x1200p or 2560x1440p monitors (you have to turn off your laptop internal display monitor to get the 3 going). Use your bloomberg keyboard provided. and get a nice mouse like the MX Master 3. That's really all you need. Would highly recommend 3 separate monitors (on a 3-arm mount) vs. ultra wide monitors

I’d say a lot comes down to preference. Personally I don’t like ultra wide at all because I find it easier to separate between the different tabs and things I’m looking at. I rather have a clear division between excel, the 10-q in my browser and the earnings call transcript on my third screen. It’s also easier to move around than having one big screen with those artificial borders.

I do agree that it’s nice to have one large screen if you’re looking only at a single excel model. It’s give and take.

What use case is there for an ultrawide? It only seems useful for gaming

We use them at my firm. UHD ultra wides are pretty nice for Excel as you can display entire sheets while keeping the scaling very readable and on one screen. However tbh I would rather have 2x1440p monitors than a single ultrawide if I had to choose (21:9 vs 32:9 is a big difference). Although when talking about a heavy duty setup, I would prefer 2 ultrawide to 3 standard size (so 42:9 vs 48:9, which is close, but a triple monitor setup can be annoying at times, which tips me to the ultrawides)

Some funds have the Anywhere subscription so you can use on your home - makes sense if they don't give laptops out. i have a laptop from work so i just use the normal bbg subscription, works at home or at work.

No use case for ultrawide besides aesthetically pleasing. It's a pain in the ass for work and provides no value. You don't need 3 screens but having 3 is nice to have your various bbg worksheets / newsfeeds, email, models, pdf/browser all open in front of you.

Lenovo carbon or spec'd out Microsoft surface are solid. Just need a USB c port, 16gb ram and recent gen processor to be in business, not much else.
