HF summer analyst
Hi guys. I recently got an interview for a HF summer analyst role, I kind of applied randomly and didn't expect much. What kind of technical/industry research would be helpful to do in advance? How much do they expect sophomores to know? Thanks.
What type of a fund is it? That may help tailor some potential questions. Regardless, as a sophomore you're not going to get very important investing stuff because they know you know nothing. Expect to be asked basic technicals and most importantly be quizzed on why you want to do investing and work at that fund. General stuff like what's happening in the markets, etc. will help but I wouldn't expect to have a deep convo about it. Maybe you might get asked name a couple of companies you like and dislike but it will be far from an actual pitch and more so for the interviewer to understand if you can understand and differentiate what might make a good / bad business or an investment.
Thank you!! Honestly very little info online (they're seem pretty private - most LinkedIn people are on cannot view) but fixed income focus w/ absolute return.
Ughh not sure how much would they expect a soph to know about credit markets. Just do what I said in the initial reply and maybe read about credit markets and see if any of that makes any sense to you and that should hopefully be enough. Maybe read about different types of stuff corp bonds, govt bonds, etc. and how they are different. I doubt they would expect you to know a lot about credit investing.
If you want say the name of the fund and maybe I can try to find more info for you
Bracebridge. I consider myself pretty up to speed on markets (read a lot) but don't know a ton about specific HF investing

This is the role you applied for? Assuming you're a STEM major? Looks like you would be more quizzed on your programming skills. Talk about interesting projects you have done, etc. Can't really help more about quant like roles, sorry. Not my cup of tea. One thing I can tell is that they will focus more on you knowing how to program well and if you know your basic finance stuff and can show interest in the markets by talking about it a bit. Read about different types of fixed income products and just have a basic understanding of how stuff is different
Yes, this position. I'm a STEM major but not programming. I think I'm just gonna do general research in fixed income - don't know how else to prep besides finance q's
