How to find good pod seats?
Coming from fairly pedigree’d SM doing generalist work. I have had a very good past 3 years in terms of ideas/sizing working in our book. Was a junior trader/pm in my earlier career and have always wanted to manage a book. BD has been reaching out about analyst seats but obviously a little adverse selection at play. I was wondering if I was missing anything about finding good pod seats from a generalist SM seat besides just talking to any folks I know (network/sales coverage/linkedin).
Said this before and I’ll say it again. Speak to ex analysts, speak to people who might be in the know. Ask PM’s directly for their track record and why previous analysts have left etc.
Above all, this job is about being creative and sourcing information, you should do the same when finding a top seat
This. For the love of God, take the interview, meet the PM, see what you think of him, ask his team, ask for their track record. If you don't like what you hear, you pass. Really not that hard.
