What do you think is important for long term success in quant finance?

I randomly came upon this blogpost by someone who (I think) works at Citadel. It makes me wonder what are the important factors that determine long term success/happiness in this industry? It seems to require a certain level of intelligence but from (albeit limited) what I've read if you're too smart the mundane part of the job might be too mind numbing for you. Is there a point after which money becomes a second thought/ no longer the main motivator?

Blog post: rgonstuffDotsubstackDotcom/p/why-so-little-quant-passion

Any senior quants willing to share their two cents? Or someone who has worked at quant funds and see something common among the top performers?

PS: if you're into the 5 factor model in psych like I am, would be nice to get a profile of the typical high performers in terms of

O (openness to experience)

C (conscientiousness)

E (extraversion)

A (agreeableness)

N (neuroticism)
