Investment case on Financials

About to be given a case for a L/S HF, high likelihood that it will be on a company in the Financials sector. Which is the sector I know the least. Although not being the core of this HF I'm interviewing for, it's one of the sector they invest in. I'm an equity analyst with 4 YOE.

What are KPIs you'd focus on? Is there any single book on the sector you would suggest me to go through to have a quicker understanding?

I should receive it next week and have about 2 weeks to work on it.

Key metrics for a lender are NIM, CTI ratio, CET1 (banks only), loan loss ratio, and loan book growth.

For modelling revenue and opex for a lender: forecast loans (growth + losses + churn), assume a NIM, forecast non-interest income, assume a cash CTI

If it is a bank and you have the time, you should make sure they are not breaching regulatory capital ratios in the forecast. Levers to avoid breaching required CET1 ratio is (a) DRP / cut dividend; (b) raise equity.

Valuation multiples are P/E and P/B. Banks don’t quote EBITDA or EBIT.
