London L/S Equity Analyst Compensation
Hi all, hope everyone enjoyed some well deserved time off
I was wondering if it would be possible to get an idea of the typical compensation at MM L/S Equity funds (Citadel, Millenium, Point72…) for IB analysts (1-3 years of experience) jumping directly to hedge fund (i.e. without a previous experience in PE)?
What is the typical base salary / bonus (by performance thresholds) for a 1st year l/s equity analyst at a MM? How does it compare to the same position at a SM? Would be super useful to have insights from people who did 1-3 years in IB before joining a HF directly
Clarifying that this post is focused on London only. Sorry if this has already been discussed, but most HF comp posts here seem to be focused on the US
Many thanks for the help
Regardless of experience, your comp will be around the same at an MM.
base is around 120k, can be closer to 140k at some firms. Bonus is usually around 70-100% in the first year assuming you survive. Base doesn’t increase until you’re a PM, bonus depends on performance
for MM
would suggest trying to do the training programs if you can: experience academy, bridger etc. a lot of the IB analysts that come in are clueless and quite far behind the grads etc. not necessarily a lot of opportunity for mentorship
Do you have any tips on how to network in London? I want to get into technology consulting in finance, my background is engineering as I worked at Bloomberg. I worked on tools for publishing data on Macroeconomic Indicators and Commodities. I want to use the networking opportunities to learn about how analysis is done and how qualitative and quantitative data are used.
Can you please share a link or additional info for the training programs you mention? Unfortunately could not find neither experience academy or bridger. Thank you!!
P72 experienced academy
balyasny bridger
marshal wace have one too
My progression (though I’m US not UK and did 2 years IB before):
Y1: 350k
Y2: 450k
Y3: 700k
Y4: 950k
Y5: 2.5M
TMT L/S, all at one MM, got carve out in 2H23
Is this outlier pay - seems very high
100k GBP at MM
What kind of fund is paying this?
Seems very low for a hedge fund

I got a call from a recruiter re Jain Global. The base was £100k and I have close to 15 YOE. Friends of mine at MLP (who are analysts) are on £120k. You go to these places for the bonuses, not for the base salaries.
