curious if there is a pathway for MBB intern to this career path. feel like consulting is not quant-enough and tbf the salary in HF dwarfs consulting

L/S is doable, but you’re not top of the list for opportunities and HH’s. I see MBB guys do sellside ER stints before joining my platform sometimes
You're an incoming intern still in undergrad, anything is possible still. Getting interviews to prove your merit may be tougher than someone who's interning in ER for L/S or SWE for quant. But, if you made it to MBB from a non-target, I'm sure you're capable enough to grind out networking to get some interviews (even if networking is less important in HFs).
