Mount Kellett Capital Management: informational interview tips?
Anyone know anything other than the standard CapitalIQ info for this fund (i.e. founded by ex-GS partner, heavy in the distressed debt/restructuring/turnaround space, etc.)? Returns perhaps? Have an information interview with one of the analysts soon. Thanks in advance.
This is the sort of thing you could find out in the informational interview and probably wouldn't want to post publicly right before it.
We look to them for equity on some of our real estate deals.
i knew a few guys in their HK office, but all are gone now. I think they are probably doing some real restructuring of the book since they piled into a bunch of speculative natural resource stuff, most of which did not work out. Would make sense fo rthem to do soemthing different. McGoldrick really made his name buying distressed in the Asian Crisis of 97, and asset prices in Asia never got that low in 2008, so i think they probably had to find a place to put the money. This created the aforementioned turnover. You can probably tell by their holdings that these guys were real "believers" at some point since many of them are highly speculative and illiquid. Based on who has been let go in HK, it would seem they are not going to be doing that in the future.
