Path to HFs
Would you choose IB or PE for an analyst role before trying to make it to HFs and why? What attracted you to HFs over PE in the long term?

Career Resources
This has been answered a lot before. Is there a more specific question you have regarding HFs?
My apologizes, the search function wasn’t working well.
My main question is if you’d like to end up at a hedge fund prepared for success, would you choose to recruit for IB or PE for junior summer? I’m debating between the skill sets learned from each SA role.
Unless you are diversity, I would probably focus on IB SAs with the hope of converting that into an FT offer.
PE SAs at reputable firms are incredibly rare and without connections or diversity and FT offers outside of real estate arms are effectively unheard of.
The most common pathway to Hfs discussed on this forum is IB m&a/rx -> PE -> mostly distressed or similar Hfs. This is common but on LinkedIn I also see ER/IB/S&T-->Hfs but this is very much down to candidate specifics and network.
The issue is I am diversity and have networked at Carlyle/BX/KKR. I’m debating how to time my recruiting since PE has opened earlier than most IB.
How would this change your opinion?
HFs invest money. If you want to do that, probably better to go to a place that actually invests money rather than a place that just advises or helps the people who do. Just paraphrasing a thought I heard from a principal/partner at Third Point
