PDT Partners

Has anyone interviewed with PDT Partners before? How do their interviews compare to other firms in the industry? There is very little information available about them compared to other firms like HRT, Citadel, 2S, etc.

"whitewalker" Interviewers were nice but asked very tough questions. Found it to be harder than Citadel and Two Sigma but good questions and doable with sufficient preparation.

What role did you interview for?

I gave them a shot some years ago. There were statistics questions and standard brainteasers from the books, but no programming, and a test that was on the hard side. A mix of friendly and arrogant people. The interviews seemed more geared for hiring fresh grads than experienced people.

That was my impression too, that new hires won't be getting much upside at this point. It's a big corporation now, like TS/Citadel. There was a pretty negative review of them on glassdoor saying that too, but their HR seems to have gotten it removed.

I think if a shop is handing out tests to experienced candidates, it means the job they are hiring for doesn't really matter. All the good roles are already taken and won't open for a long time.

I was under the impression they only hire experienced people out of academia. A few other places operate in this manner; quite unlike Two Sigma or Citadel where even UGs and Master's students can get a quant position.

I work at PDT. I've also worked at other top quant funds including ones you mentioned in your post.

PDT is fairly secretive (even by quant finance standards) so I'm really not supposed to say much about the company or the interview or the comp. But I can tell you its the best company I've ever worked for. The way they treat their people is amazing. Comp is different for everybody depending on their situation, so I can't predict what you'll get; but at least for me, it was quite generous and significantly higher than all my other offers.

You should definitely interview with them if you get the chance. You may or may not like each other, but you definitely won't be wasting your time.

I am interviewing with them. I sent you a PM.

Unfortunately, like I said above, the firm is rather secretive, so I'm afraid I'm really not supposed to tell you anything more in a PM than I already said publicly above. :-) All I can say is that I'm extremely happy here (and I've worked at enough different quant funds to know the difference). Interesting work, great comp, super-excellent work-life-balance. I highly recommend it.
