Prop trading and quant funds: Importance Of Pedigree

Hey all,

Had a quick question. So we know IB and PE is very pedigree obsessed. I keep hearing that for prop trading firms and quant funds to be an “ideal candidate,” you need to show that you’re hungry to succeed in trading or quant research. And unlike IB/PE, they don’t require multiple previous internships and so on, just raw ability. Those firms are more interested in raw talent than in pedigree. What truth is there to this?
How important is your pedigree (school, age, undergrad) when it comes to PT and quant recruiting?
