Q&A: I'm a Cross Capital Structure Hedge Fund Analyst
Hey guys and gals. I've been away from WSO for a while, but will never forget how much this site has helped me through my career, and figured now was a good time to give back. As mentioned above, I am currently a Research Analyst at a >$5bn Hedge Fund working on Credit and Equities. I started my career on the sell-side in both Credit and Equities. Feel free to ask anything and everything and I'll do my best to respond ASAP.
I would suggest you lean on those guys around you. Pick their brains when they are free and available to talk and walk you through what they do and how they approach their job. Meet individuals from your college for coffee. Etc. Etc. Etc. Network network network.
A lot of it is going to be leg work on your end. I've come to realize mostly everyone wants to help their colleagues, especially the younger ones.
Beyond that, do a lot of learning on your own: CFA, read research reports, read primers, sit in on investment committee presentations, read team case studies, etc etc.
