Sell-side junior recruiting for buyside role
Apologies in advance for the naive question. I'm currently in sell-side research at a BB and coming close to the time when I want to make the switch to buyside. I'm more looking for a SM HF rather than a multi-manager role. Any tips on going about recruitment? I've spoken to some recruiters before but they're usually just pushing pod shops. I've heard the obvious answer of trying to ask junior buyside clients but was wondering if there are any other routes as I'm trying to keep it lowkey and not in an immediate rush to leave. Thanks!
Start reaching out to juniors at funds that you would want to work for. Find SMs that would be receptive to your background. If a fund like Lone Pine and Pershing only hires from MF PE I wouldnt waste my time with those types of funds.
Recruiters will only push you to roles you can place in easiest. Most likely MMs with a new PM looking for an analyst with your coverage.
