In my opinion:

Tier 1a: Harvard, Princeton

Tier 1b: MIT, Yale, Stanford, Wharton

Tier 2a: Columbia, UPenn, Dartmouth

Tier 2b: Cornell, Brown

 

Hedge funds care more about raw intelligence and passion than prestige. Hedge fund guys are scrappy, PE guys are preppy.
