Tips on improving Wonderlic/IQ test
I recently took an IQ test for a MM interview and think I did really badly. The questions weren't hard but, it took me way too long to complete them. I'll admit I didn't prepare whatsoever. I think I answered maybe 30/50 questions. Is there a way to improve my speed on these tests?
Being quick to answer is far more relevant in this test than usual, if you get stuck just move onto to the next one
I never understood why I had to do the Wonderlic test for the role I applied for, but I think it does give an insight to the candidate's general aptitude.
No offense, but you’re not exactly supposed to able to increase your IQ…
The only true IQ tests are taken when you’re from 5-8. You can always be more learned when you’re older. Just like u can get a 36 w/ 100iq u can most def study for these iq type tests. Ask any of your friends in prop trading
Child IQ tests are notoriously variable... loads of people score 160+ then normalize later on. As long as you haven't studied for the IQ test it will be more reliable taken at 18.
Such an IB muppet reply. Everything in life is a game that you can max/lvl up. Especially Tests.
OP asked "how to improve Wonderlic/IQ Test [Scores]." Not "how to improve my dumbass IQ."
I failed all 9 of my prop trading IQ/Wonderlic/Puzzle Test interviews during undergrad. 3 had Wonderlic and I was shooting ~30/50 in practice tests. I told two friends which interviews had wonderlics and they got offers with 42 and 45. Both were shooting ~37 week prior to interviews and repeatedly did practice tests.
Was it truly an IQ test?
I guess you mean the GMAT style tests?
The generic Woinderlic test. 50 reasoning/math questions in 12 minutes. The firm called it an "IQ test."
Is that what P72 does?
If yes, then it's quite similar to the GMAT. You need to learn how the test is scored and when it's worth spending time on a question.
There are practice tests.
I thought it was fun. Went well.
Be smarter lol
I took 3 practice tests before I did the P72 test to get a feel for question types and legit went 50/50 during game time. They’re just not that hard…
figure out the types of questions you're not good at and just pick a random answer for those after a few seconds (assuming this isnt every question). So if you're good at math, then usually you can spend most of your time on the questions that are straightforward and have some extra time for any that may take a little longer (ie 15-20 seconds).
The best way I found was to do a few practice ones under a strict time limit, while ratcheting the time limit down for subsequent reps
How do firms that use wonderlic account for some candidates m using calculators while others do not?
I'd be surprised if they put much weight on the actual results. Seems like an HR formality.
People who don't use the calculator either don't need one (the math is not very difficult), or they're dumb.
Happened to take it after preparing for the gmat and it felt like a practice test. Never saw the score, but got most of the way thru and felt good about it.
Took it a couple of years later after actually working at the firm at a happy hour and did…a lot worse lol.
oh also probably adderall
btw make sure you are know who the provider of the test is... some of them adjust your score for hit rate (% correct) and provide that as a separate test metric so that guessing is discouraged or at least the incentive is balanced...turned my relatively ho hum score into a good one
The only true IQ test has a pass fail result. If you’re trying to repeatedly take an IQ test to improve your score, then you’ve failed.
Do people use chatgpt? Lol
