Transitioning Sectors as Mid-Level Analyst
How likely is it to transition sectors as a mid-level analyst? I view myself as a generalist but the industry views me as [insert old economy sector]. I’m trying to transition into tech. 3 yrs experience in HF but willing to take a step back if needed.
I've had a similar struggle. I think just have to target smaller SM shops. Most pods will think you're only capable of looking at 1 subsector and once the biz dev hears about your "old economy" bias/focus, you're screwed in terms of switching. Not impossible to switch but an uphill battle for sure.
Yeah I pitch myself as more of a generalist - hopefully that can help but I’m not sure
how long did it take you to find something? Unfortunately these are not the best times to find a seat either....
Took me roughly 3 months but I changed asset classes - didn’t enjoy pod equity lifestyle :/. I’ve been getting decent inbounds over the last few weeks so things seem more busy in Jan. Good luck!
