What does Biz Dev at a HF do?
Running into those guys a lot for recruiting. It seems they are mostly identifying PM's, but surprised they care about the PM's analyst hiring, etc.
What exactly does biz dev do? Do you have to go through them?
It varies from firm to firm. But many places, it’s someone who manages the recruiting process outside of typical HR functions. Often their direct finance experience is greater than someone who works at a fund in HR (who deals more with comp and benefits than talent identification).
if the PM likes me and wants to hire me, can biz dev deny it?
Trying to avoid that kind of situation
Doubtful, the PM if its a pod model will have final say. They may just bring to the PMs attention other options.
