What is a sector head?
At some funds you have people who are “sector heads”. What does this mean? Are they PMs or senior analysts or an in between? Do they only manage other analysts or also pick stocks, and do they have trading discretion like a full PM?
It’s in between. They’re usually very senior analysts but their opinions can be trumped by founder/CIO. So they may be the “expert” on their sector and the one leading analysis / views, but in those models, usually a CIO or committee signs off on positions.
they don’t have the unilateral decision making power of a PM and are usually less focused on the broader portfolio management side of things - much more on specific ideas / companies.
