What's the path from analyst to PM at MM?
Generally what's the path from analyst to PM at a MM? Generally how do you build a track record if you're working under a PM and how do you convince the MM to give you a shot at managing pnl? What is the process typically like?
There is none. You typically need to switch firms.
Majority of the cases you need to switch to get a shot at being a PM. If MMs allowed an easy path for analyst to become PMs , current PMs would be pissed off as all their analyst would be looking to do so. This is a bigger problem in the quant space where IP is a big thing.
But what if you are actually quite high performing, have good idea track record, but the PM is not giving you due credit or not implementing your ideas?
