Do News Companies Encourage Volatility
So this afternoon the stock market is having a decent day and yet the front page article on CNBC is "A Possible Tumble in the Market Looms Over Health-Care Vote." While I understand that they are reporting a current, relevant event it seems like anytime an issue comes up that news agencies always hype up how terrible the response is going to be if something does or does not happen.
Other more obvious examples from the previous year/s were the greek crises, Brexit and the election where many news outlets were reporting that their would be a terrible response in the stock market immediately following the event (based on what happened). Am I reading too far into titles or do news outlets overly hype up events simply to drum up reader interest? If they do, do you think they should temper it back a bit?
