Is the Amazon HQ2 Compensation Plan Even Possible?

Although everyone has heard, Amazon is looking to build a second headquarters. Amazon has captured everyone’s attention by “narrowing” down the list of contending cities. Yes, this is a big deal, but it incredible how much interest people are taking in their decision.

People are taking interest because of what Amazon is promising: 50,000 new jobs with an average salary of 100K. Any city would want that. Even for a behemoth like Amazon, how feasible is this compensation plan? This isn’t the only question I have regarding HQ2. I also want to know how HQ2 could effect the city it enters. Several companies have expressed concerns over what HQ2 could do to wages and recruiting in their respective city.

So, does anyone have an analytical approach to determine whether this compensation plan is possible? (Even though Bezos could probably pay it out of his own pocket) Also, are there any cities on the list you think would be hurt by the entrance of HQ2?

P.s. Washington DC, Northern VA, and Montgomery County, MD are frontrunners due to Bezos’ ownership of the Washington Post. Good prediction?
