How does one go about rectifying discrepancies on the q/ks when the values from year to year change? Ie if i pull a 2008 2q 10q the cogs for 2007 2q cogs is different than reported on the 2007 2q 10q. Thanks in advance

Use the most recent filing - a lot of different things could cause restatements
Agreed. Use the most recent filings that disclose the figures you want.
Anytime there is a restatement you can usually find a rec table somewhere in the K, or, alternatively, you could look through the company's 8-k's to find a significant announcement.
