$1.1 billion for Ducati?

Are you going to have a high revving Ducati engine in your small Audi? What about a Quattro dirt bike?

Reuters
Volkswagen's Audi unit has agreed to buy thoroughbred Italian motorcycle maker Ducati for about 860 million euros ($1.12 billion) including debt, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.

Here's a link to the Dealbook article.. https://dealbook.nytimes.com/2012/04/17/audi-is-said-to-be-ready-to-buy…

And FT https://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/c880be50-6d07-11e1-ab1a-00144feab49a.html#ixzz1sLZGQEya

Ducati sells about 40,000 motorcycles a year and controls about 9 per cent of the market in sports motorcycles. In 2010 it generated earnings for interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of £71m.

I would have liked to see Ducati remain independent in this era of platform sharing, but what do you guys think of this potential deal? I'm interested to hear the opinion of both end-users / fans and from a financial / business point of view.

Also, any idea on who would advise on this? How cool is it to work on these kinds of deals?

ConnorYou know that the world is fucked when an 86-year-old motorcycle manufacturer was valued about the same as Instagram.

I believe Instagram was valued @ $500M, $1B was the transaction value.
