A family friend takes a non I-banking road to Carlyle
So I just heard that a family friend is working at The Carlyle Group. He is based in Washington D.C. as an analyst in the Real Estate Group.
A little background information:
He got his B.A. in econ and math from a Top 20 undergraduate school. He then worked in marketing at a top consumer products company for two years and then joined a family business in the property tax consulting business for two years. After that he went to a Top 5 MBA program (not Wharton or Harvard) and is now working at Carlyle.
I was wondering how common is it to see someone get to a top PE firm such as Carlyle by following the non-Ibanking path as was done in this situation?
