A1 - Got a Buyside offer - Do I need to give 2 weeks?
Hi All,
Joined as an A1 at a BB last July. Very fortunate to have received a buyside offer in Private Credit starting in the summer. They're letting me wait my bonus out. Since i'm an A1, I need to wait till it's paid out in August. I'm planning to quit the day it hits my bank account.
I have no requirement for a notice period (at will employment) but understand this is a courtesy. The PC fund wants me to start that Monday after my bonus gets paid out. My group has a history of not letting you work the two weeks if leaving for a competitors (e.g. moving to another bank) but typically makes leavers going to other industry serve their two week.
My question is - I really hate my team. Do I bother giving a two week notice at the risk that they make me serve it? What are people's experience when they move to the buy side?
I’d give my 2w if I were you, always better to leave on good terms for future reference, etc
Yes you really should. There is no reason to burn a bridge here, finance is a small world. The PC team should know this is typical.
The leaving immediately thing is only for people going to other banking groups. Most people "work" the first week mostly to pass projects off, and then still come to the office the second week but leave at like 3pm. Some places will let you stop coming after projects are transitioned. Two more weeks on the team isn't the end of the world, leave on good terms
