Advice for UG

I've been lurking on WSO for a while now and I understand I can go through and read a lot about tips for undergraduates, but I was wondering when is best for me to start reaching out to alumni looking for internships and what not? Could I start the summer before my freshmen year? Or should I just wait until I am on campus?

You should start networking now, but you will most likely not get an internship until at least sophomore year, possibly not even until junior year. But start reaching out now, because that will increase your chances of getting internships in you sophomore. If you are at a non-target school, I would say that reaching out to smaller firms is a good idea, you will have a better hit ratio with smaller places. And then, once you have interned at a place and have gained deal experience and the like, you can leverage that to get an internship for junior year at a BB or EB bank.

it cant hurt to net work while doing those things. Then people will remember you when you come asking for internships in sophomore year. You will then be be able to tell them how you we are part of the financial management club or whatever.
