Advise for summer?

I was planning on taking a couple of finance courses for the summer to prepare myself better for the 3rd year SA recruitment time, however due to some personal problems I was unable to register on time and all the slots were full.

So now I can either take some economics courses and electives for the summer or try to find a job. I am finishing 2nd year with a CGPA of 3.85. I would love to be able to get a decent job for this summer but i'm lacking confidence and experience. I also applied to several positions during school but I did not do so great on interviews and wasn't given any offers.

Any advice on what I should do? I was thinking of cold calling as many small/startup boutiques/funds as possible and maybe try to get a position there working for free? Is it too late for this? Any other ideas?
