Alternatives to PE and Corp Dev. for TMT Analysts?
I searched through the Corp. Corral section, but I still don't have a lucid picture of what opportunities are commonplace for post-IB Analysts. I will be starting FT in BB TMT in this upcoming analyst class. I don't have an interest in PE or driving the internal M&A processes of any particular company, but would like to work in something more strategy oriented.
So, at this stage, I am curious as to what opportunities that IB Analysts, and specifically TMT analysts, take interested in this pursuit. Doing a LinkedIn search, I found that most corp strategy, bizops associates, product managers, and roles of the like are filled by ex-consultants rather than ex-bankers. Is consulting the dominant/preferred field for such roles, or are bankers competitive in these processes as well? Are there analogous roles that bankers migrate towards?
Thanks for any replies.
Have you thought about VC?
I have thought about VC; however, I would rather get some experience in a big reputable tech firm, go to b-school, and then enter VC. It would be optimal, I think, to get some operating/strategic experience before I try to enter that world.
After 2 yrs at BB IBD in TMT you should have the qualifications to join strategy groups at various big Tech firms like a Google. Have seen some people do it
@TheBlueCheese Thanks for the input. Maybe my LinkedIn search was biased in one way or the other--it just seems like the majority of these positions are filled by ex-consultants, but I'm glad to know that it's an option.
