Am I too late for internships (London) - Any tips?

I feel like I haven’t made enough applications and I’ve only ended up progressing thru to the next round 2x. Most of the MM and BB recruiting is already onto 1st/2nd rounds. Is it too late for me to get a summer internship? I’d appreciate any advice. I’m at semi target and I’m ideally aiming for corporate banking or similar roles.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not too late, but you need to act fast and strategically. Here are some actionable tips to maximize your chances:

  1. Apply Broadly and Immediately: Many banks, especially smaller firms, may still have open applications. Cast a wide net and apply to all remaining opportunities, including boutiques and lesser-known firms. Cold-emailing smaller firms for unpaid work is also a viable option.

  2. Networking is Key: Reach out to alumni or professionals on LinkedIn, especially those with similar backgrounds. Attend networking events and follow up with people you meet. Building connections can help you fast-track your application or get referrals.

  3. Optimize Your Application:

    • Ensure your CV is tailored to London standards and highlights relevant skills and experiences.
    • Keep your cover letter concise and focused on why you're interested in the role and firm.
  4. Prepare for Interviews:

    • For corporate banking, focus on behavioral/motivational questions and basic technicals.
    • For investment banking, ensure you’re ready for both behavioral and technical questions. Use resources like BIWS 400 and Rosenbaum for technical prep.
  5. Timing is Critical: Many banks recruit on a rolling basis, so apply as soon as possible. Do not wait for deadlines.

  6. Spring Weeks as a Backup: If you’re still in your first year or early in your second year, consider applying for spring weeks. These can lead to summer internships.

  7. Stay Persistent: The process can be random, and rejection is common. Keep applying and preparing for every opportunity.

Good luck!
