I think you would have to do something amazing to pull out of the bottom rank and redeem yourself. Pushing back on more work is not an option and will only hurt your ranking, especially if everyone else is doing more work than you. It's also hard to just switch groups.

 

you can do it. was bottom ranked in my first year and it killed me - just by people knowing it i got put on the worst projects and just kept on getting worse in terms of hours and effort i was having to put in.

try sitting down with your staffer to see if you can be staffed on projects with others than you have been, with your line manager to see what else you can do and even your team head (MDs end up making the decisions regarding ratings), then work your ass off while most people start to lose motivation.

Takes time to turnaround the situation, but keep at it while others will inevitably slow down, and you will be noticed.
