Analyst who wants to stay on as an associate: when to bring up to bankers?
I'm a first year analyst at a MM in NY and really enjoy it. I'm thinking of sticking around past my first two years, but am curious how to go about this. Is this a conversation to have in July/August when I get my review and bonus? Or is now (six months into the job) a good time to bring this up? Thanks.
Could you explain why you believe that there is a need to bring it up? Because you believe that they will fast-track your promotion? or because you believe that when it comes to firing people, they will pick you last because you indicated your intention to stay on?
Has this problem of retaining manpower in IBD so severe that if you do not indicate to your bankers of your intention to stay past your analyst years, then it is assumed that you will be leaving?
Disclaimer that I'm not in the industry yet, but the consensus opinion based off the conversations I've had with analysts and associates is "yes".
It is something that will come up in your annual review.
