ANL Bonuses

Thinking about forgoing my AN2 bonus. Just wanted to reach out to see what the consensus is regarding analyst bonuses and how much lower people expect them to be. Have heard some expecting them to be down 50% and others expecting ~10-20% down.

Thinking about forgoing it if it's expected to be significantly down.

Why would you forgo the bonus?  Do you have an opportunity lined up else where and you have to jump ship before bonus (if so, you should negotiate with that other opportunity to make you whole - or at least try)?  I don't know where you work, but in my experience Analyst bonuses don't swing as hard from year-to-year at BBs. Even when things are bad, a good company will pay their Analysts.  You are not the one who is bringing in business.  At your level, you don't get the big upside when things are booming, so you shouldn't be suffering as bad (on a % basis) when stuff is hitting the fan either.

I think a lot of the sentiment is pretty unfounded, at least with regards to An bonuses swaying 50% etc. junior pay, for better or worse tends to be more rigid given how comp calcs are done and allocated and firms simply can’t grossly underpay analysts given the constant need for them at other places despite the market. So I do think they bonuses will be down forsure but likely not at the swings you’re talking about (obviously if you’re at a smaller boutique or something you’ll be far more susceptible to these swings). But I don’t think either way it’s something worth forgoing as you’re so early in your career and the extra cash is always beneficial.
