Another career switch question w particular regional interest

I graduated from a target school (LAC) in NE and am looking for a career opportunity in i-banking/m&a firms in the South. I have no background in the industry as a history major, and any chance at a name recognition is thrown down the drain. I'm looking for a way to boost my chance at an analyst position at small to mid sized firms in cities like Charleston and Atlanta. What are some specific skills or industry knowledge I could quickly study? Any help would be golden. Thanks in advance.
