Anxious about moving to a new city for FT

Title. I am an international student who has no family in the United States. I start FT in July. I am anxious about moving to a new city for my A1 role. I do not want to purchase an excessive amount of items for my apartment because I fear that my firm will lay off people in this worsening economic environment. Does anyone have tips on how to alleviate my fears because I am literally considering just buying a bed frame, bed mattress for my furniture and a WFH setup. That and personal hygiene products, nothing more.

Am I being too skeptical or does this make sense lol.
