Any chance I'm still being considered?

I interviewed for a strategy role a little over a month ago. From all accounts, it went well. it was one panel interview with 2 HR and 2 Directors. I was told by the HR rep (on my way to the elevator) that it would take about 2 weeks to hear back, since they were just beginning the process. Afterwards, I shot out my 4 thank you notes, didn't get a response or anything, which I guess is understandable.

At around the 2 week mark: I follow up with the Director to A) send him an interesting article related to a case study he gave me and B) asking him if he had a status update on my interview. The next day, he responded positively to the article I sent. However, in regards to the update, he wrote something in the likes of "We are still in the midst of the first round of interviews. Someone from HR will reach out if we would like to schedule a second round. Thanks for reaching out!"

The fact that he pushed me back to HR was not very encouraging. But anyways, about a week later, I call HR in hopes to get some kind of update. I was told "The group enjoyed meeting you. However, we're still evaluating other candidates. Can you follow up with me in two weeks?" The only positive feedback I've gotten, is the fact that when I called HR and re-introduced myself, she responded as if she fully knew who I was (and then proceeded to give me the update without missing a beat/checking her files for my name). Surely I'm still in the mix, right?

The two week mark is this Monday. Realistically speaking, do I have any shot? Like I said, the interview went well. I'm just not very confident, given the feedback I've gotten so far. I mean, it's been over a month and they're STILL evaluating other candidates? Not to mention, according to Linkedin, this job had over 300 applicants and was finally removed last week (not sure how to interpret that, since it's still on their career site).

Any reason to think I'm just being strung along here? I don't see why HR wouldn't just be upfront with me (even if it meant sending me an automated rejection letter a day or two after I spoke to her). This is a gig I REALLY want/need, so it's all about managing my expectations now, even though I know the only thing I can do at this point is wait until I hear something more concrete.

Did you apply through Linkedin? Maybe they are still accessing other candidates. Even then, I usually move on if they don't get back to me within 3 weeks. You can keep following up, but just know that other candidates are probably in the same shoes doing what you're doing. There's nothing you can do on your end really. If anything you're one of several people being considered, but they're looking for someone even better.

I actually found the posting on the career website, and reached out to a VP in the group. He put me in touch with HR, and that's how I got to the interview process. Did a phone interview with HR, and then two weeks later I did the in-person panel interview. The annoying part about it is the phone interview was essentially a cold call by HR and two weeks later after being in the dark about next steps, I get a call late one afternoon getting me to come in the next day for an interview. Virtually no time to prepare for either interview, yet it's taking them over a month to complete the process. If I would've known that, I would've pushed back and said I wasn't available until a the following week and prepared better.

But yeah, didn't apply through Linkedin, I just noticed the job posting on there after researching the company. It was one of those jobs labelled "On Fire". It was finally taken off last week, but I think it was just because they had way too many candidates, not because they filled the role (I hope).

SirTradesaLotOne way to find out: call them on Monday and see what they have to say.

Yup, that's the plan. I just wanted to see what some of ya'll thought.
