Any insight on Calex Partners or its founder?

Please share your thoughts since they seem to be hiring a bunch lately. Based on LinkedIn and what a former employee mentioned, it's an extremely sweaty place with well below-street pay (their average employee tenure is 4 months on LinkedIn so assume that's true?). They seem to have good M&A deal experience though.

Talked to this guy for an associate 1 role, just my opinion and experience

1.) Interview was scheduled on a Sunday… never had this happen before, but okay whatever

2.) Immediately broke NYS law asking what my current comp was

3.) Mandated 5 days per week in office.

Take that for what it’s worth. It’s a 5 man boutique, I wouldn’t waste my time imo

Can confirm this has been my experience with him as well during the screening call, very sketchy firm with no signs of an HR department or even a FINRA registration. I would imagine you lose your license working there after a few months. I've had a boss like this guy in the past so it was game over for me a few minutes into meeting him.

First, he starts selling me on how great the opportunity is to work on tiny ass behavioral health autism deals. Then he starts shit talking every one of his employees and pretty much admits he's trying to get rid of all of them and start from scratch (how does he think this is a selling point LMAO?)

Can only imagine how terrible it is to work for a guy like that.....

Place is a sweatshop. Worked there a few years ago and was paid way below market. Like insanely below market. Analysts and associates also signed NDAs contractually agreeing to not disclose their bonus $ amount to anyone else which gives you a good indication of how the bonus shook out... Good deal reps and ultimately glad I worked there but man it was an eye opening experience.

Don’t waste your time. This firm will never go anywhere because it is founded and being run by a narcissistic mf loser who definitely has some mental disorder/needs therapy. I worked under this guy twice at his last firm and can confirm he was pushed out of there because everyone hated him. He is the most incompetent banker I ever met and was literally so hated he had to go find his own shop. He also got fired by some of his clients in the last few years in the midst of deals, which didn’t help.

No analyst at the whole firm wanted to get staffed with him. Highly recommend you avoid this lunatic at all costs.

Take a look at his broker check, it’s jokes. What kind of banker works at 12 different firms in under 10 years? Probably someone really stupid or really incompetent. In this case, trust me, it’s both!
