Anything incoming freshmen should be doing?

Will be a freshman at a target this fall. Have no banking or finance experience; how should I go about finding an internship for this summer? I see kids on Linkedin with BAML internships right before their sophomore year and think wow, these kids must have some finance experience up their sleeve if they're getting internships as early as freshman year. How can I put myself on a competitive edge? I live in a very economically depressed area, so finding banking internships near me will be a no-go but would it be possible to find one somewhere else?
