Are hours better at boutiques?
Not talking about EBs, of course, but how are working hours in regular boutiques that are not so well-known? Are they a lot better because the deal flow is slower, and deals are smaller? Or are they pretty similar to MM, BB, and EBs?
Depends, I know some that are 60hours a week and pay high 90s In a cheap city and others that are 90 hour weeks with little pay
Yup hits the mark. Do your due diligence.
What are good examples of boutiques that play close to Street?
Really depends on the boutique and their deal flow. You have some knocking out tons of deals this year and ones barely doing anything at all.
Yes, typically, assuming you are talking about smaller boutiques. There may be exceptions for industry-focused ones that end up pitching and having lots of non-deal work for marketing.
Deal work always seems to bunch up, but it's also the frequent pitches and idea decks that are taking up so much time at the larger banks. We used to create decks frequently for random or recurring calls with executive teams at public companies to try and provide value (aka impress them).
